I 131 in the air of the Czech Republic in October and November 2011

Very low levels of I 131 were detected in the air of the Czech Republic.

The Monitoring Sites of Air Contamination within the Radiation Monitoring Network have detected trace amounts of I 131 between October 14th and November 18th 2011. The detected levels of I 131 were extremely low- in the order of microBq/m3 for both aerosol and gaseous form of iodine. Although there is no health concern for the population, monitoring regime was adjusted to provide as much data as possible, according to the instructions issued by the State Office for Nuclear Safety. Standard monitoring regime was re-established on 18.11.2011.

According to the IAEA press release with reference to the official statement of Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority (HAEA), the release most probably originated at the Institute of Isotopes Ltd., Budapest.

Values of activity concentration of aerosol and gaseous form of I 131 are shown in the figures.

Measured iodine activities are lower than the activities in the air of the CR after the NPP Fukushima accident in March 2011. Since the I 131 activities have dropped below the detection limit at all monitoring sites since 18.11.2011, the charts have not been further updated.
