Last week, the director of SÚRO, Aleš Froňka, participated, along with the leadership of the State Office for Nuclear Safety, in a working visit to the Republic of Korea. The programme included meetings with the Korean nuclear regulator and visits to major nuclear facilities.
The programme also featured expert meetings focused on sharing experiences and further development of mutual cooperation. The entire delegation visited the Saeul Nuclear Power Plant, production facilities of Doosan Enerbility, which contributes to the manufacturing of equipment for nuclear power plants, and the Korea Institute of Nuclear Nonproliferation and Control (KINAC). The institute deals with nuclear nonproliferation and nuclear safety and carries out work in areas such as the IAEA safeguards system.
On 30 September 2026, the director of SÚRO and the president of the Korean institute KINS signed an arrangement for cooperation with the main goal of supporting technical collaboration and information sharing in the field of nuclear and radiation safety. Other areas of cooperation may include technical assessment and evaluation, support for nuclear supervision inspections, emergency preparedness, and human resources development. This cooperation will help with the approval of constructing new Dukovany units.
